What are Crank / Cam Angle Sensors?
Crank and cam angle sensors are used for detecting the rotations of the crank and cam shafts.
The crank angle sensor detects the reference position and rotation angle of the crank shaft as well
as the engine speed. The cam angle sensor identifies each cylinder through its transmission of the
cylinder identification signal.
In an electronic fuel injection system, this signal is used as the basis for fuel injection and ignition
timing controls.
When a rotor that has projections rotates, the magnetic flux detected at the crank and cam angle
sensors changes. After the change in the magnetic flux is converted into rectangular-wave pulse
signals, the signals are output to the engine control unit (ECU).
Typical Symptoms in Case of Failure
Symptoms in case of failure
- Engine start-up failure
- Engine stall
