What is an Exhaust Gas Temperature Sensor?
An exhaust gas temperature sensor is used in the exhaust gas, as well as in the exhaust-gas aftertreatment system, and is arranged on the upstream side of the diesel oxidation catalyst (DOC) and the diesel particulate filter (DPF). This sensor also helps protect other components from overheating. In addition, in the case of diesel engines, this sensor plays the role of monitoring the temperature required for the regeneration of the DPF (through a free-burning process).

Typical Symptoms in Case of Failure
Symptoms in case of failure
- Reduction in power and acceleration
- Influence on fuel efficiency
- Malfunction indicator light (MIL) turned on
Typical causes of failures
- Insufficient response speed and accuracy owing to degradation from aging
- Cable disconnection from vibration
- Fouling from exhaust gas
