The electronic throttle body (ETB), arranged at the intake system of the electronic control system, controls the amount of intake air that passes through. Based on the output voltage of the accelerator sensor and on the sensor information from various on-board sensors, the engine control unit (ECU) sends the optimal throttle opening degree signal to the ETB.
According to the throttle opening degree signal received from the ECU, the ETB controls the DC motor to open and close the throttle valve. Compared with a mechanical-type throttle, this method can control the throttle valve such that the opening degree is optimal for the vehicle operating condition at that time, thereby contributing significantly to improving the fuel efficiency.

Symptoms in case of failure

  • The engine almost stalls when braking to a stop
  • The idle speed slows down
  • The idle speed occasionally decreases
  • The engine almost stalls when warming up and restarting

After the ETB has been replaced, relearning needs to be applied according to the manual to fully achieve the proper performance.
