Technical Information
Applications for HÜCO fuel pumps
- To replace mechanical pumps in all vehicles (except for injection pumps, fitted near the engine)
- To replace electrical pumps in all vehicles (except for injection pumps, fitted near the fuel tank)
- In additional heater and cooling systems
Under certain environmental conditions
- When fuels with added alcohol are used
- In hot regions where fuel easily evaporates
- In regions located above 1.000 m
For industrial applications whenever liquid has to be delivered
- Gasoline engine fuels
- Fuel mixtures: methanol, ethanol
- Diesel fuel
- Bio-Diesel is not permitted
Advantages of the HÜCO fuel pumps
- The pump delivers only the needed fuel and stops when no fuel is relieved (energy saving)
- The pump is self-priming and needs not necessarily to be fitted below the tank
- Longevity
- Low operating noise
- Low weight
- The pump is corrosion-resistant
- The pump is resistant to methanol and ethanol
Fitting Instructions:
Check whether you have the correct pump:
Suction Pump - for mounting in engine compartment, not in the area of engine heat
Pressure Pump - for mounting near the tank
- Optional fitting position
- When mounting the electrical fuel pump into vehicles with carburetor motors a safety switch must be used.
When the engine of the vehicle comes to a stop in case of an accident and the ignition is still switched-on, the safety switch cuts-off the electrical fuel pump.
Usage examples
The particular advantage of the HÜCO fuel pumps is due to the fact that they can replace mechanical and electrical fuel pumps (except injection pumps).
Application of pumps under difficult conditions or for higher outputs, e.g. in trucks, agricultural machines, for supply of cooling systems, additional heaters, in boats, power units etc.
The following principle should be used when choosing the correct pump:
| Voltage | Application | Type of pump | Part number |
|---|---|---|---|
| 14 V | Replacement of a mechanical/ electrical pump - installation in the engine bay | Suction pump | 133010 |
| 28 V | Suction pump | 133040 | |
| 14 V | Replacement of an electric pump - installation near the tank | Pressure pump | 133000 |
| 133008 | |||
| 28 V | Pressure pump | 133030 |
Delivery curve for:
pressure pumps 14V
suction pumps 14V
pressure pumps 28V
suction pumps 28V
Example of determining the flow rate
Fitting conditions:
The pump is fitted approx. 0,7 m above the tank and approx. 1.3 m below the carburettor.
Suction head:
= 0,7 m fuel = -0,05 bar
Pressure head:
= 1,3 m fuel = 0,10 bar
Used pump:
Pressure pump 13 3000
Follow the curve SUCTION-0.05 bar up to a pressure head of 0,10 bar and you will then find the pump's flow rate put on the intersection left, which is 80 liters/h.
The HÜCO Fuel Pump is a diaphragm pump.
Function
As soon as the ignition switch is in 'on'-position, voltage is supplied to the fuel pump and the integrated solenoid moves upwards. With this fuel is sucked through the suction valve into the valve housing. While the plunger moves upwards, it triggers a sensor contact and the current flows through the coil of solenoid will be cut. A spring mounted beneath the diaphragm will now push the diaphragm in its starting position and the fuel is being pushed through the pressure valve. By reaching the initial position the plunger triggers the sensor contact and the whole process starts over again.
Service and Wear
The HÜCO Fuel Pump is maintenance-free and almost without wear.
