Astemo has an extensive and profound experience with electronic throttle bodies, as we've supplied all well-known vehicle manufacturers since many decades.
We started with the first generation of electronic throttle bodies already back in 1997. Over the years we continuously improved the used technologies with important steps such as Non-contact TPS (Inductive Throttle Position Sensor), improved bearings and constant weight reduction.
Currently Astemo manufactures Electronic Throttle Bodies in 11 of its own factories, which are located in 7 different countries.

The electronic throttle body (ETB) is installed between the air flow sensor and the intake manifold. It regulates the air, which is aspirated from the engine. Depending on the angle of aperture of the ETB, the air fuel ratio is changed.
The accelerator position and all other available data of the engine control unit (ECU) are permanently aligned. Via the measured data, the ECU calculates the best throttle position.

The actuation of the throttle body is controlled with a signal from the ECU. This electronic actuation is useful for a very efficient engine controlling.
Possible malfunctions are contaminations through depositions such as dirt or soot or other foreign objects. Additionally, the gear wheels inside the ETB are subject to wear and tear and therefore can be damaged over time. Also possible is a malfunction of the actuator or the potentiometer.

Today the ETB range of Astemo Aftermarket consists of over 170 products.

With our current product range, we cover more than 50 million vehicles in operation within the EMEA* region. As part of our general product and range development, we will be adding many more SKU's to our ETB range in the very near future.
